ASSIGNMENT 01: 3 GAME ARTISTS/DESIGNERS

Jeremiah Slaczka
Currently working on: Unknown.  Latest projects include Hybrid (on XBLA, released August 8, 2012)  and Scribblenauts Unlimted (multiple systems, released November 13, 2012)
Education/Training: High school drop-out (advises against it)
Got where he is today by:  Learning video game development by joining a team of amateur developers he met over the internet. Together, they founded Epix Interactive (which flopped) and then 5th Cell.  After failing at licensed games for a few years, they began working on original properties (such as Scribblenauts)
Advice:  "First of all, if you want to do it, then do it! Don't talk about doing it - it will only waste time.  Just do it!  That's the hardest step.  Second, there will be a ton of failure, so just keep on pushing through those failures. Third, talk with your actions, not your words.  Lastly, no one will help you or believe in you at first, and rightfully so - you're just starting out!  You're a newbie!  So don't have an ego.  Be humble; understand they don't know how awesome you think you are, but over time your work will show through. Also, praying doesn't hurt." -- Nintendo Power, volume 254, May 2010

Cory Ledesma

Currently working on: WWE '13 (release August 30, 2012, but still producing DLC)
Education/Training: College
Got where he is today by: Started out as a game tester for THQ while at college.  Worked hard to join the core development team, and spent twelve years climbing the ladder to creative director on the WWE games.
Advice: "I hate being cliché, but I guess I would tell them to work hard, follow their dreams, and never let someone else tell them they can't do it.  If this is truly your passion, there is a clear path to take to get there.  If you're feeling like you're not a naturally gifted game designer, just remember that hard work beats talent when talent fails to work hard." -- Nintendo Power, volume 282, September 2012

Jennifer Hale

Currently working on: Voice actress on cartoon series Totally Spies!, TUFF Puppy, and Green Lantern: The Animated Series, and in video games Fuse (PS3/X-Box 360), God of War: Ascension (PS3), and République (iOS, Windows, Mac)
Education/Training: Studied acting at the Alabama School of Fine Arts
Got where she is today by: Moved to LA and got the role of Ivy in the Where on Earth is Carmen Sandiego? cartoon series, later reprising the role in the video game Carmen Sandiego: Junior Detective Edition.  Since then, she has played a number of roles in video games, including Samus Aran in the Metroid Prime series, Naomi Hunter in the Metal Gear Solid series, and the female Commander Shepard in the Mass Effect series.
Advice: [Note: This primarily applies to voice actors] "Two words: work ethic. that and never, never forget that you are just a a part of the equation.  The producers, writers, etc. will work on a project for months or years and you come in for a fraction of that time.  Your job is to be excellent, easy to work with, do an awesome job, then let them do the mountain of work they have to do.  Never forget the big picture, both of the story and the production.  That and keep your acting skills supersharp." -- Nintendo Power, volume 241, May 2009
